Greetings. I am the mom of a 17 year old AS son. I think that he is doing well. Lots of interevention, IEP. He will graduate with honors this spring. But we are not sure what the future holds, by any means.
Sometimes it feels like we are reinventing the wheel.

Thanks for the warm welcome. Didn't know about this site. Found that post on your blog to be very helpful. Ryan was PDD-NOS when he was younger. He graduated to Aspy a few years ago. We were fortunate to have spotted it really early and he had excellent early intervention managed by Children's in Boston. Loads of OT and counseling and a full time mom with super focus and dedication to improving the quality of his life have made all of the difference.
thankyou for the welcome,as i am totally computer illiterate this should b a fun experience, just one question though,w/ only 118 members y cant we all just b friends instead of 100ppl?
I added your badge to the bottom of my page to channel some of our traffic to your site. You have some great information posted. The vid about the characteristics of parents is great. I have some people on the ASN site (another site of many that I belong to) that will really enjoy this one. It was great for me too I really enjoyed it i sat up and watched it last night. Thanks again, Mike

Hi Ariane, thanks for the welcome. I've joined to try and get to know more about Aspies and help my son and also help my other two understand how he feels. Take care and have a great day.
Sarah :-)
Hi Ariane, and thanks for the welcome. It's nice to find spaces to talk to other aspies. Looking forward to getting to know everyone here.
Take care
Simon
Sorry it has taken so long for me to respond. Have you ever considered assistive technology (like a word processor, word prediction) to alleviate potential fine-motor issues related to writing? Also, would his math teacher be open to priming? (see my priming post) I know he is in middle school and there is usually the pressure for him to become more independent, but there are other ways his teachers can take the stress off of him...what do you think?
He really has 2 issues that get him going. The first one is having to rewrite a draft on work he has done. The second is being patient enough to learn and understand the math (pre-algebra). He wants to keep everything he learns in his head. He is not into taking notes.
He does have an IEP, and a 1:1 aide. His aide is a patient woman who has been working with special ed. kids in the same middle school for several years now. She volunteered to take on my son. His frustration level builds when she tries to get him to stay on task. He will arbitrarily yell things out that he really does not mean. Sometimes he acts disrespectful towards his aide and his teachers even though he knows better when he is not in "a moment". I don't have these issues with him at home.
I worry about his frustration level more then anything else. I don't think he should have to spend his day hating school. If he could possibly take the most minimal dosage that would last only while at school, I am considering this option--but it is not set in stone. Just something to take off that edge.
