I said I'd never work for that SOB again

I lied. I ran a little photography business when I was in my last two years of high school. When I graduated in 1958, I closed the business and went into the military to get schooling in electroncs. As much as I liked photography, I was not happy having a business where I took pictures on demand from other people. Electronics was a good career for, as it threw me into constant contact with other strange and wonderful people. People who understood me and whom I understood. I worked mostly… Continue

AS and aging

I have been retired from driving school bus for about a year and a half, now. I didn't want to retire, but I was no longer safe, due to returning AS symptoms. The one causing the problem is one I've had control over since I was about 9 or 10. Once I started shooting long distance competition with the 30-06, I'd been able to turn on or turn off the hyper-focus. As I did every year since starting to drive kids on a school bus, I reviewed my performance over the Christmas Break. I realized I was e… Continue

50 years

I spent most of last week over in the town from which I graduated high school. It was the first reunion I've attended, so I hadn't had contact with these old classmates for fifty years. I'd not realized that I had gone to high school with so many old pharts. lol I did pretty well, for the most part. I made sure to control my time in the hospitality suite, where everybody was gathering for chatting. I spent most of the final dinner and presentations behind my camera (which surprised no one.) The… Continue

Old school pictures

I am going back through the few pictures I have of my days in elementary and high school. The pictures are few, because I was usually the one behind the camera. FirstInLine commented on the change in posture as the years advanced. In early elementary it was head down, shoulders hunched and head tilted. Later in elementary, my head is coming up and the head tilt is disppering. In high school my head is almost erect and my gaze is level, looking directly into the camera. The one from my Army days… Continue

Obsession?

I don't know whether this qualifies as an obsession, or just wierd. :D I always have carried many things with me, "just in case." This was noted by people around me as a child and I'm still know as the "go-to" person for a knife, tool, pen, pencil, note paper, etc. I usually wear cargo pants, because of the many pockets, a two-pocket shirt and a vest with pockets inside and outside. Right now, I have on my person: Shirt pockets - pen, felt tip knife sharpener cell phone glasses cloth note car… Continue

Another memory

I was with Dad one day, when he had to stop in to Railroad Pass Casino to pick up some advertising copy for the next week's paper. As RR Pass is a casino and bar, I could not come in. Bored with sitting in the car and not having a book to read, I started playing with the cigarette lighter. I plugged it in, and pulled it out when it popped. Hmmmm....hot. I held the hot end up to my sketch pad and it left a nifty, brown pattern on the paper. Lovely! When Dad returned, I had patterned the entire i… Continue

Look in my eyes

Dad owned the newspaper in the very small town we lived in. When I was about 6 years, Dad took me with him once when he went to interview a man visiting relatives in town. This was not an uncommon occurance, as Dad thought I needed more "socializing." I noticed the man he interviewed, Mr. Marion Morison, was watching me, which caused me to curl down even more than usual. After the interview, he came over and sat beside me and started talking quietly to me. I didn't hear what he was saying, at f… Continue

Remembering

Now that I am digging into the file boxes in my mind, I brought up an incident that is interesting to me. I am trying to clarify in my mind just what I was thinking at the time. or, if I was just rolling along without concious decisions on my part. Hmmmm For a number of years. our house was the last one on our street, with nothing behind our back yard but desert. Then, the city suddenly put in two more streets behind us. Soon, a family moved in directly behind us. I watched closely for a bit an… Continue

First Entry

I discovered that there is such a thing as Asperger's Syndrome a couple of years ago while doing research for a co-worker who has two autistic grandchildren. I took the diagnostic criteria test and was brutally honest withmyself. I "passed" with about 90% and hit more than minimum on each criterium. Since retiring 17 January, 2008 I have started researching in earnest. Granted, this makes me "self diagnosed" but I still feel I might have something to learn and, possibly, something to contribute… Continue
