Diagnosed late

There is not enough information about asperger's syndrome. Doctors know more about it now than they did 20 years ago, but there is still not enough information. They are able to catch it early in kids now, but when I was growing up autism disorders were harder to diagnose. That's why I wasn't diagnosed until just recently. NJ Adult Asperger's Support Group Accepting New Members

I was just sent this:



WAYNE — National Institute for People with Disabilities of New Jersey is now accepting participants for their Asperger's adult support group to be held at William Paterson University in Wayne, beginning in January.



Program participants will meet two times a week for a total of five hours (includes time for lunch) each day, and will be provided one-on-one support when necessary. There is no fee for this service.

Oxytocin may be helpful in treating core ASD symptoms

The International Center for Autism Research and Education (Icare4autism) is currently conducting trials to determine if giving oxytocin can improve social functioning and repetitive behaviors - irrespective of the age of the patient. Specifically, research is being conducted by Icare4autism's Advisory Board Chairman, Dr. Eric Hollander. Dr Hollander is also the Chair of Psychiatry at the Mt. Asperger's Syndrome: An Obsolete Diagnosis?

The New York Times reported that the new DSM-V, which is set for release in 2012, may do away with the Asperger's Syndrome diagnosis altogether....
